What do Millennial Shoppers Want?

I love being part of this generation.

We grew up watching bizarre commercials on the dangers of marijuana and the DARE police came to our school to talk to us about drugs. Yet it had no effect on us. We don't let others persuade us, we make up our own minds.

We are the generation that goes against the grain. We like things done differently, and we don't want to do "traditional" things. Some businesses don't understand who we are and keep their model the same. They are hung up in the past while we always strive to push forward.

The Millennials are Innovators and Boomers are Laggards

We are talking to you pushy insurance/car/computer salesman. We are talking to the businesses who accept cash only. The ones who have no online presence and no reviews. The laggards in business. It's time to change. We like to do thorough research before spending our money, and when we are ready to pay, we want it to be the easiest way possible for us.

There are companies out there that get it. Chipotle gets it. Starbucks, VeggieGrill, Trader Joe's, Apple, Uber, Amazon, and AirBnB get it. We like things to be convenient, tailored to us, but most importantly it has to be an experience. We can be frugal and view luxury as frivolous, but we happily wait in long lines and spend $15 on food truck meals. Especially if they use square or even better ApplePay. It's all about the experience.

We love to watch ads that are emotional, fun, and inclusive. We support shoe brands like Tom's and buy organic cage free because we are a generation that cares. I guess you can compare us to Lisa Simpson.

Companies need to start adapting to our needs and stop complaining about change.

As a millennial I did not like the way wedding videographers treated their clients. I heard horror stories about people like Jesse Clark, and I knew I had to change things.

Frank and I began Ninja Monkey Media in 2011. He joined as the cinematographer and I as a producer. Our mission was to create the most beautiful wedding video while giving the couple creative freedom.

The wedding videographers with old business models are afraid of us. We shoot better, love to collaborate, and are true to our work. This is a huge threat to those who are stuck in the old ways of doing things.

Millennials, if you find a videographer that doesn't offer 4K, is unwilling to customize, or doesn't listen to your ideas move on. Chances are there's another company out there like Ninja Monkey Media that does offer those things and more.

Don't back down from your needs. Don't let other companies talk you down. Most importantly, don't settle. Find the company that suits you.
